Porsche Adds Another Legendary Name to the Lineup

It's no secret that when Porsche chooses a name for a new model, it's a name that'll go down in history. You don't even have to say 'Porsche' before the words Boxster or Panamera, because people automatically associate those titles with the power and luxury of driving a Porsche.

The newest member of the Porsche family is certainly no exception. The SUV, which will start rolling into dealerships in 2013, is being called the Porsche Macan.  In a press release, Porsche explains, "The name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics - core characteristics of the new off-road car."1

The fifth Porsche model, a low-riding, sporty SUV, pulls from the success of the first Porsche SUV: the Cayenne. Though at first, enthusiasts were skeptical about the transition for sports cars to utility vehicles, it's gone on to become one of the best-selling models.

While it's not set for production until 2013, the automaker has recently released early sketches of the model and a teaser video. That leads us to believe that it will make its debut at the New York Auto Show, or maybe even Paris later this year.

Meanwhile, their teaser ad for the Macon brings with it a sense of urgency and a zest for life. The automaker says, "Life should be lived to the fullest...The Porsche Macan is coming."2

The question is: are you ready for the next aptly-titled Porsche? Be sure to stay tuned with us, Bert Smith Porsche, 3800 34th Street North St Petersburg, FL 33714 for continued news and updates on this and other new Porsche models.
